The World Economic Forum’s article, “How tokenization is transforming global finance and investment” (Dec 10, 2024), aptly states that the exploratory phase of tokenization is over — what lies ahead is execution at scale.
From Euroclear’s tokenised sovereign bonds and gold, to the Hong Kong Monetary Authority’s Project Evergreen and Goldman Sachs’ DAP platform, the global financial system is undergoing a foundational shift toward distributed, synchronized, and programmable infrastructure.
At KLDX, we believe Southeast Asia is well-positioned to lead this transformation — powered by regulatory innovation, increasing demand for alternative financing channels, and strong frameworks in both conventional and Islamic finance.
In March 2024, KLDX achieved a national milestone by issuing Malaysia’s first tokenised Islamic investment note — a product that merges alternative financing with Shariah principles through blockchain technology, unlocking broader access to private markets.
But tokenisation is more than a product innovation — it represents a systemic upgrade to address long-standing inefficiencies: fragmented recordkeeping, high reconciliation costs, T+2 settlement delays, and capital immobility.
On 6 May 2025, the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) released Public Consultation Paper No. 1/2025, proposing a regulatory framework for the offering and dealing of tokenised capital market products. In parallel, the SC is partnering with Khazanah Nasional Berhad to pilot tokenised bonds and sukuk aimed at expanding retail investor access — a bold step toward market democratization.
Further accelerating innovation, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) launched the Digital Asset Innovation Hub in June 2025 during the Sasana Symposium. The initiative provides a controlled environment for testing digital asset solutions while helping to refine Malaysia’s regulatory and cybersecurity frameworks.
These are pivotal developments, and we at KLDX are proud to support and contribute to this important national agenda — shaping the infrastructure for a more inclusive and digitally connected capital market.
